In Memory of Jean Mullen… Green Bean Jean

green bean jean

In memory of Jean Mullen.  It was 1975, hard to even remember
why she ended up spending a few weeks with me in L.A. back then.
She and her young, fresh-faced husband, Ted from Illinois
coming to the La la land to make her fame.  Her voice was
amazing.  I long to find her album  ‘Green Bean Jean’.  So..
this poem is for you honey.  I don’t know why you danced in my
mind this morning and here you be.

Green Bean Jean

Decades ago give a mind flash
To a time back
when a girl was yet woman

Traveling to the LAland
hoping for the right
band to get her music

Lived in my place
Rocked with amazing grace
Hope was hers to share

Into the heart space
Laid her music straight
Sang melody sweet and pure

She was on the right track
Gave her music back
To all who cared

On her way to gig out
let her songs shout
Found her death on the highway

Filled with those days
L.A. crazed days
I ponder Jean

Listening to her songs
as I sang along
to Winter Moon

In my heart space
feel her songs trace
sweet memory pure

A day to the Green Bean
in namesake us Jean’s
today with you.

Please do me a favor and read this note line by line slowly. It’ll be worth it.

During the mid to late 70’s I met a wonderful girl who I had the pleasure of spending many happy moments with. Then one day she was gone from my life forever. There are many happy stories in between.

In honor of her memory I play a very special album of music once a year, on her birthday, July 25th. I love her so much.

Recently I downloaded her music onto a new phone that I had just purchased. I had engaged the automatic download for cover art. Lo and behold the picture from your website of my very special friend popped up on my screen. I could’t believe it. What a gift.

So now, your wish has been granted. I have the entire Green Bean Jean album. I think the universe works in very special ways. “I think I’m really very lucky to have a special friend like you.”

You may contact me at my e-mail address:, or my phone: 805-901-5556. is Michael.

She was such a talented & beautiful lady. Jean’s family lived down the street from us. We had her album Green bean Jean. Two years after she passed two of my brothers, who also were musicians were killed in a car accident. I’m sure the album can be found. Let me poke around. I know Jean’s brother Andy is living in Alaska these days. Were friends on facebook. I’ll hit him up & repost findings
