Today a prompt was given from the http://www.NaPoWriMo.net/ site: the song that was #1 on my day of birth. OH geezer.. The prompt invites you to write a poem that somehow relates to this song, like take a line and make it my own. That what I’m gonna do. It’s really quite a sad song when you listen to it; of letting your want for fame and fortune devoid you of love. Filling you up on one level, leaving you empty on another. Choices and consequences. At the end of this is the original lyrics of Ballerina Dance.
DANCER
This is your moment girl
Love will wait its turn
A dancer dances for the dance
Pirouette that achin’ heart
Ignore the empty whirl of lonely
Fill up on the applause
Clap your feet to the stage
And Dance
Love gave itself to you
Fame and fortune stole you
Give no backward glance
His seat is empty
And the audience applauds
Every twirl you make
Sets the stage for only you
No room for love’s call
So Dance
This is your moment girl
Thousands cheer your turns
Fame dances you to starlight
Fortune silken’s your bed
Think not of the shows end
When the twirl of lonely dreams
Dances away his loving heart
just Dance
~~~~~~~~~~~
BALLERINA DANCE
by Bob Russell and Carl Sigman
Dance, ballerina, dance
And do your pirouette in rhythm with your achin’ heart
Dance, ballerina, dance
You mustn’t once forget a dancer has to dance the part
Whirl, ballerina, whirl
And just ignore the chair that’s empty in the second row
This is your moment, girl
Although he’s not out there applauding as you steal the show
Once you said his love must wait its turn
You wanted fame instead
I guess that’s your concern
We live and learn
And love is gone, ballerina, gone
So on with your career, you can’t afford a backward glance
Dance on and on and on
A thousand people here have come to see the show
As ’round and ’round you go
So ballerina, dance
Dance, dance!
Whirl ballerina
Once you said his love must wait its turn
You wanted fame instead
I guess that’s your concern
We live and learn
And love is gone, ballerina, gone
So on with your career, you can’t afford a backward glance
Dance on and on and on
A thousand people here have come to see the show
As ’round and ’round you go
So ballerina, dance
Really well done …a strong poem
Going to dance with my big puppy now
