Poems in the coffee shop: Conspicuous pronouncements.

It’s bitter cold here, -20F.  Not that that has anything to do with these poems I’m sharing, I wanted you to know that.

Anyway,  I was with my journal, passing into one of my favorite local coffee shops, Mighty Good, in Ann Arbor for about 20 minutes before work.    I ordered a ‘Dirty’ Chai latte, (dirty is always preferred, filthy dirty would be better) and sat in one of two empty tables in the center of the room that was for 8 people rather than one.  I did feel conspicuous. What’s new and …Oh well.

I let myself peruse the room, without staring, trying to be non-invasive;  It seemed the right thing to do, even though I wanted to do some staring and scrutinizing.  Everyone was being very invested into their computer, tapping and scrolling away, mostly ignoring the rest of life around them.  Most everyone was single and alone at a table.

Other than me, there was only one other person not on the computer, and he was writing music; tapping his pencil ever so lightly on the table. He was with his wife.  How did I know she was his wife?  She was actively chatting to someone on the phone declaring him as her husband for some kind of bill they were figuring out.   He, lifting his head, with affirmative nods while she spoke, still tapping some soft rythmn.

These poems are what rolled out of me in those 20 minutes of being conspicuous.

poem mighty good

Finding ease in the shiver

The freeze grabs at the inhales

Pulling up the inner heat

Exhaling a quick warmth

soon to crystalize

A mask of breath

a suspended pause

held to the minus

A blur to the distances

falling like a light snow

There’s no kidding

You never lost your

childhood flair

for knowing

It All.

Hard to believe

there is a limit

to All.

Perception has a way

of making the world

very small

I wonder if you

can even stand

in that little space

You call larger

than life.

Your life is so small.

I’m the only one of twenty

I’m not on my computer

I see him, writing music

composition of notes floating

in song across the paper

Music wins

The notes of life

Sharp and flat

You could change

your tune

Honor the bitter brew… & sippy the coffee

Sippy the coffee… I wave my hand to the heavens in gratitude for this dark bitter brew.  Today’s NaPoWriMo, prompt suggests to dive into the senses.  Smell it, taste it, feel it, see it, hear it… A multi-sensorial experience.

So… in honor of the bitter brew.

Beans dark like fertile earth

Hard roasted till the seep of oil

Declares there readiness

And their crisp shell mets the blade

They tap together in the pour

a chant to morning awakening

Whirs the first explosion of crunch

And the waft of bitter dirt expands

A fragrant want slides in my brain

My tongue remembers all my mornings

A slight thrill shivers through me

As I lay the dark grind in the filter

Exactitude is no measure for me

Spooning as much as seems right

Watching the water level rise

Pushing the button that incites the brew

There is no room in the house that

eludes the gurgle and bubble

Longing for the first sip

I pull the pot with the last spit of it

Snaps hot at my impatience

Lays one quick sear on my hand

I pour the black bitter brew

Let the haze of steam rise up

It clouds my vision for one moment

While I bring it to my lips

Feel the burn of it on my tongue

Let the dark earth of it fill me up

With the morning race of my heart beat

down to my toes and finger tips

I am grounded in the morning

Rising to the alert of the day

COFFEE POWER or the Great Sippy

SNOW….I woke up to the white, and It’s dadgum freezing out there.   I have to say, I’m all ready for winter to be done with itself, it is after all, almost the middle of February.  Us Michigan folk are typically ready for winter to come to an end by now. I just feel confused.   HA Haaaaa.  no way.  It is pretty.

Black coffee like dark dirt

Grounded up land ready

to receive the cold chill of water

You sippy it up to rev

The inner engine pulse

Fill up on the high octane

Of that filtered ground

to start the day solid

Maybe thinking it’s

The kinda grounded

that holds you stable

Steady as you go

Drinking that dark dirt

of richness all ground

up in the illusion

Of wakeful alertness

to get the day started

in the buzz of it

Really, you just want

to be grounded in the day

The world, life in general

Start out with a little brew

and the feeling you’re

ready to face your day

Not in the grind of it

in the sippy of feeling

grounded in it.

What have you always wanted to study and learn about that you didn’t?

What makes you think/feel it’s too late to give your longing a try?

What could be your first step toward your heart’s desire?

“The wound is the place where Light enters you”  Rumi.

Light holds your essence

It is what you imagine it to be

even in the darkest places

it breaks open to light the way.

Light may enter your wounds

for your healing grace

Propel your inner flame

to expand compassion’s forgiveness

Light is witness to all that you are

It shows the path of joy

It heals the forsaken wound

Love is Light’s path way

Light and Love will never leave you

no pitch of night of a lonely heart

No sin, no evil, no degradation

will deny you a place in the Light

You are Loved absolutely
